INTRODUCTION
The World Chinese Arts Education Association (WCAEA) is a non-profit organization registered in Hongkong, China. WCAEA promotes arts and education, and it is the only international arts education organization serving Chinese arts educators worldwide. Our mission is to gather experts, scholars, and art education practitioners of different levels engaged in arts and education worldwide to promote the reform and innovation of art education and Chinese art education and organize teaching seminars and international exchange activities. Chinese art education truly has a global perspective and continuously improves the quality of education in the arts.
The predecessor of this association was the "Cross-Strait Art Education Committee," established in 1998, later renamed "The World Chinese Arts Education Association" in 2008, and has hosted seven international arts education symposiums since then. The foundation of the WCAEA is to connect Chinese through arts education around the world.
Mission
Short Term Goals:
1. To promote arts education in China and Chinese communities worldwide;
2. To sustain and expand arts education research and practice in China and Chinese communities around the world;
3. To advance foundations of k-12 arts education and gather expertise in higher education to cultivate and generate quality teacher-preparation programs;
4. To provide opportunities through international exchanges and collaborations to establish global perspectives for Chinese arts educators and those of Chinese descent;
5. To institute procedures for diverse educational and cultural exchanges.
Long Term Goals:
1. To affiliate with arts education organizations and associations worldwide to help strengthen international collaborations.
2. To diversify and expand services worldwide to art educators of Chinese and those of Chinese descent.
Collaboration
In 2013, WCAEA and the UNESCO International Society for Education through Arts (InSEA) became strategic alliances. We collaborated with 91 Ant and co-organized IOD Ideas on Design International Design for Industry Summit in 2018. The same year, we collaborated with Hong Kong Society for Education in Art (HKSEA) and held the InSEA Asia Regional Congress 2018 & 7th WCAEA Symposium. In 2019 and 2020, WCAEA formed sister alliances with Turkey National Visual Art Education Association (GÖRSED), Association of Cultural Offices in Philippine Educational Institutions, Inc. (ACOPEI), the Social Aesthetic Education Alliance (CSAEA), and Malaysian Junior Art Education Association (MYJAEA).
Events
The association's activities center on large-scale academic symposiums held every two years (or once a year under special circumstances), supplemented by the normalized exchange events and interactions of the Internet and WeChat groups. We launched large-scale art education academic seminars and innovative activities, timely sharing educational information of college, K-12, family, museum, social participation, and teaching in art(s) education. We held art education exhibitions and launched curriculum design competitions and other educational activities such as inspiring creativity and artist interviews.
So far, WCAEA has held a total of 13 large-scale international symposiums. Among them, six were held in Urumqi, Kunming, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Guangzhou in the name of the Cross-Strait Art Education Exchange Conference. In the name of the World Chinese Arts Education Symposium, we successfully held seven symposiums in Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Guangzhou, Ningbo, and Hongkong, China. All conferences and online and onsite events have brought great influence. We established our academic brand and a good reputation among Chinese art educators around the world.
Since this association is a non-profit academic institution, all association officials are volunteered and unpaid. All activities are non-political.
